Keonjhar/Angul, Odisha : A tragic incident unfolded at the picturesque Nageera Garjan Khal Waterfall, located on the Keonjhar–Angul district border, where a young man went missing after drowning in deep waters on Friday.
According to reports, four friends had visited the waterfall for a picnic and bathing. The group included two youths from Balarai village under Banspal block of Keonjhar district and one from Goppapur village. During the outing, one of the youths, identified as Lipuna Kumar Behera from Balarai village, slipped into the deep water while bathing and went missing.
A video of the incident, captured by bystanders, has gone viral on social media, drawing widespread attention and concern. Locals immediately informed authorities, following which the Banspal Fire Service team rushed to the spot and launched a rescue operation.
However, as per fire officials, the depth of the waterfall posed significant challenges to the search operation. With nightfall making conditions unsafe, the rescue attempt was temporarily halted. Authorities confirmed that the search would resume on Saturday morning.
This tragic episode highlights the growing risks at tourist spots like waterfalls during the monsoon season. Local residents have urged visitors to remain cautious and avoid venturing into deep or slippery zones.
The incident has left the youth’s family and friends in shock, while rescue teams remain hopeful of tracing him once the search resumes.
