Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025: Harmanpreet Eyes Glory

New Delhi : India skipper Harmanpreet Kaur is determined to guide her side to their maiden title in the upcoming Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025, set to be played at home from September 30 to November 2.

“This is a home World Cup. It’s special for every player,” said Kaur, who will captain India for the first time in the 50-over showpiece. “I have a lot of experience batting at No.4 and just want to contribute to the team. We are preparing mentally and physically.”

A major talking point is the omission of opener Shafali Verma. Despite good T20I form against England, she was left out of the ODI squad, with selectors opting for stability. Kaur confirmed that the youngster remains in India’s long-term plans through her India ‘A’ stints.

India have twice finished runners-up — in 2005 and 2017 — but are yet to claim the trophy. With experienced names like Smriti Mandhana, Jemimah Rodrigues and Deepti Sharma in the squad, Kaur believes this is India’s best chance.

“The team looks balanced, and we have been playing together for a long time. Hopefully, in the Australia series and the World Cup, we will play our best cricket,” Kaur added.

With home advantage, experienced leadership, and a blend of youth and consistency, India enter the tournament with high hopes of finally lifting their first World Cup crown.
