Bhubaneswar, Odisha : The Union Cabinet has approved the construction of the 6-Lane Access-Controlled Capital Region Ring Road (Bhubaneswar Bypass – 110.875 km) in Odisha. The mega project will be built under the Hybrid Annuity Mode (HAM) at a cost of ₹8,307.74 crore.
The new Greenfield highway is designed to tackle congestion on the Rameshwar–Tangi stretch of National Highway, which currently faces heavy traffic through Khordha, Bhubaneswar and Cuttack. Once completed, the Ring Road will divert commercial vehicles away from urban centres, decongest city roads, and enhance overall connectivity in the state.
The project is expected to deliver major benefits for Odisha and neighbouring states. By strengthening regional connectivity and reducing travel time, it will improve logistics efficiency, lower transportation costs, and provide a boost to trade and commerce. Experts highlight that the highway will open new avenues for industrial growth and economic development in eastern India.
Welcoming the Cabinet’s approval, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Minister for Road Transport & Highways Nitin Gadkari. He described the Ring Road as a landmark project that will ease urban congestion and pave the way for greater prosperity in Odisha.
