Nabarangpur, Odisha : Political tension has escalated in Odisha’s Raighar following the death of a nursing student from Dumurimunda. The student, who had been undergoing treatment at AIIMS Bhubaneswar, passed away on Saturday.
In response, the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) has called for a 12-hour shutdown in Raighar today, demanding compensation for the victim’s family and justice in the case. According to the party, all government and private offices, markets, schools, and colleges will remain closed during the bandh, while essential services such as fire services and ambulance operations will continue.
The BJD has accused the Odisha government of failing to ensure the safety of women, stating, “Incidents of atrocities against women, students, and minors are on the rise, and the state government has failed to provide adequate protection.”
The victim’s body arrived in Nabarangpur this morning, sparking grief and anger among locals. The party has also warned that unless women in the state are guaranteed safety, it will intensify its agitation across Odisha.
