Manchester Test: Jadeja, Sundar Fifties Help India Avoid Innings Defeat

Manchester : The ongoing Manchester Test between India and England has reached a thrilling phase as India managed to avoid an innings defeat, thanks to resilient half-centuries by Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar.

After being bowled out for 311 in their first innings and conceding a massive 358-run lead to England, India faced the daunting task of batting again under pressure. England had earlier piled up a commanding total of 669 runs, putting the visitors on the back foot.

India’s second innings got off to a shaky start, losing two wickets even before getting off the mark. However, a determined partnership between captain Shubman Gill and KL Rahul steadied the ship. Rahul scored a gritty 90 before getting dismissed, while Gill anchored the innings with a solid 103. Their partnership reignited India’s hopes and kept the fight alive.

Despite their dismissals, the threat of an innings defeat loomed large. But the Indian lower middle-order showed remarkable composure. Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar took charge, displaying both technique and temperament against a fiery English bowling attack.

Both batsmen remained unbeaten at stumps on Day 5, with each bringing up well-deserved half-centuries. Their partnership not only ensured India crossed the 311-run deficit but also gave the team a slender lead.

As per the latest update, India stands at 322/4, leading England by 11 runs. With six wickets in hand and the pitch still offering some assistance to the bowlers, the Test promises an exciting finish.
