Bhubaneswar : Biju Janata Dal (BJD) corporator Ameresh Jena has been suspended from the party following his arrest in connection with a grave criminal case. The suspension order was issued under the direct instructions of the BJD President, reaffirming the party’s zero-tolerance policy on such matters.
Jena, a corporator from Bhubaneswar, was arrested by Laxmisagar Police after a young woman filed a complaint alleging that he raped and forced the abortion of a minor girl, under the false promise of marriage, and threatened to kill her.
The incident triggered an overnight raid in Balasore by the Laxmisagar police, which led to the arrest of five associates linked to the case.
A case was registered under Case No. 394 at the Laxmisagar Police Station.
Charges have been framed under IPC Sections 64(2)(M), 89, 296, 351(2) and Section 6 of the POCSO Act, 2012.
The police have conducted a medical examination of the survivor and recorded her statement under Section 183 of the IPC.
