Bhubaneswar, Odisha : Officials in Odisha held a high-level preparatory meeting for the National Mediation Workshop 2025, scheduled for September 28. The meeting aimed to finalize arrangements, ensure smooth organization, and provide top judges, senior officials, and legal experts with a seamless experience during the workshop..
The preparatory session took place at the Lokseva Bhavan Convention Hall under the chairmanship of Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Shri Prithviraj Harichandan. Officials discussed logistical arrangements, accommodation plans for guests, and workshop protocols to ensure a seamless experience for all participants.
Minister Shri Harichandan emphasized the importance of mediation in reducing the burden on courts. “People often approach courts for minor disputes, creating unnecessary pressure and delaying justice. Mediation offers an effective solution and accelerates fair outcomes,” he said. He further stressed that the upcoming workshop would raise awareness about mediation as an alternative dispute resolution mechanism.
The workshop will host India’s Chief Justice B.R. Gavai, along with Chief Justices, judges, Advocates General, law secretaries, and mediation experts from various states. Discussions during the preparatory meeting focused on guest accommodation, travel logistics, and protocol management to ensure a smooth and efficient workshop experience.
Senior officials and dignitaries present at the preparatory session included Advocate General Shri Pitambar Acharya, DGP Jogesh Bahadur Khurania, Law Secretary Shri Manas Ranjan Barik, Secretary, IT & Strength Department Shri Vishal Dev, Cuttack-Bhubaneswar Police Commissioner Shri Dev Dutt Singh, Tourism Commissioner Shri Balwant Singh, Director, EPI Shri Bhupender Singh Punia, Home Department Secretary Shri R.K. Sharma, Director (Technical), Information & Public Relations Shri Gurubir Singh, and Additional Law Secretary Shri Shiv Prasad Mahapatra. They reviewed arrangements for accommodations, venue facilities, and smooth conduct of the workshop.
The 2nd National Mediation Workshop will focus on promoting dispute resolution through mediation, strengthening alternative dispute mechanisms, and sharing best practices from across India. Participants will discuss strategies to improve accessibility, reduce court backlogs, and provide citizens with efficient legal remedies.
With the preparatory measures now in place, Odisha is set to host one of the most comprehensive mediation workshops in the country, providing a platform for top judges and legal professionals to exchange insights and develop collaborative solutions for a more efficient judicial system.
The workshop promises to highlight Odisha’s commitment to innovation in legal reforms, promote alternative dispute resolution, and enhance the role of mediation in delivering timely justice to citizens.
