Bhubaneswar, Odisha : On 12.09.2025, Odisha Vigilance caught Sri Chittaranjan Rout, District Labour Officer (DLO), Nayagarh, while he demanded and accepted a bribe of Rs 6,000 from a labourer. He sought the bribe to issue labour cards to the complainant and 19 other labourers.
The complainant and his colleagues, being poor, could not pay the demanded amount. Sri Rout refused to issue the labour cards without receiving the bribe, delaying the issuance process by nearly a year. After the harassment, the complainant reported the matter to Odisha Vigilance, which set up a trap and caught Sri Rout in the act. Authorities recovered and seized the entire bribe amount from him.
Sri Rout had already attracted vigilance scrutiny due to prior allegations of demanding bribes from poor labourers for issuing labour cards. Following his arrest, officers are conducting simultaneous searches at three of his linked locations from the DA angle.
Bhubaneswar Vigilance registered PS Case No.19 dated 11.09.2025 under Section 7 of the PC (Amendment) Act, 2018. The investigation against Sri Rout is ongoing.
