Deoghar, Jharkhand : A tragic road accident in Jharkhand’s Deoghar district has claimed the lives of at least 18 Kanwariyas (devotees of Lord Shiva) and left over 20 others injured. The devastating incident occurred early Tuesday morning around 5:30 AM near Jamunia Mor in the Mohanpur police station area along the Godda-Deoghar main road.

According to initial reports, the devotees were returning after performing Jalabhishek rituals at Baba Baidyanath Dham when a speeding truck rammed into their bus, causing a catastrophic collision. The impact was so severe that the bus was shattered into pieces, leaving many passengers trapped and critically injured.
Local residents quickly informed Mohanpur Police Station, after which Station In-Charge Priyaranjan Kumar rushed to the spot with emergency teams. The Block Development Officer of Mohanpur was also alerted.
Eyewitnesses described the scene as horrifying, with bodies strewn on the road and cries for help echoing through the area. Prompt rescue operations helped transport the injured to nearby hospitals, though several remain in critical condition.
Condoling the incident, local BJP MP Nishikant Dubey expressed deep sorrow. “This tragic accident in my parliamentary constituency during the holy Shravan month has shaken us all. I pray that Baba Baidyanath gives strength to the bereaved families,” he stated.
